We always play a game on Christmas when all the family is in town. This year James picked up Apples to Apples and this game was so much fun. You need a big group to play, because the more players the better the game is. We had seven who played, and could not stop laughing at all of the crazy plays.

It is a card game, sorta... You have a Judge who draws a Green Apple Card that has a keyword on it, and then the remaining players (who each have 7 Red Apple cards) search through their cards to find the best fit to the keyword. You can have a close match to the keyword, or obscure matches, and the judge decides who the winner is. It was so fun, and I can't wait to play it again :)

you didn't even mention that I didn't win a single game, thanks! :) (blog post about it here (http://www.chessandpoker.com/blog/2007/12/26/holidays-and-apples-to-apples/))

Play the player! Play the Player!

I actually prefer this game Attribute over it:

Same idea as Apple to Apples, but I find it more replayable. You end up laughing out loud and wanting to slug the person who ends up picking a card you had labelled as "Don't take".

Here to help :-) I know far too much about games in general. I am targeting abstract strategy now, however, because I believe it has been a neglected niche.

Boardgamegeek is a great reference source for ideas.

I know a site that also displays an interest in abstract games (http://www.chessandpoker.com/)...

Cool. So are you interested in being the sponsor of an abstract strategy game event of some sort on the 2008 IAGO World Tour? :)

I agree with you Dishes. I've been hooked on Apples for Apples ever since I picked it up. We use it all the time. This year I'm getting the kids version for my boys. If anyone is thinking about getting copy, you can try it out first at www.playyourredcard.com and see what it's all about before running out to Walmart.
