Nintendo DS Lite

I have just bought my 12 year old daughter a Nintendo DS Lite. It came with a cartridge of 20 games, some of which are better than others. As she grows older I want to steer her more and more towards using it for educational purposes. Does anyone have any suggestions a) of suitable games/puzzles/software and b) best ways to get them on to the machine (i.e. buy in shop or download; if download then how and on to what?)
