Absolutely, a good Poker book can make a huge difference in how fast you'll pick up a feel and understanding for the game. for a beginner, I'd recommend starting out with some of the modern introductory classics:

Harrington on Holdem I : Mandatory reading for the player relatively familiar with how to play Texas Hold'em.

Harrington on Holdem II : The follow-up volume to the initial volume, with coverage of the more advanced concepts.

Phil Gordon's Little Green and Little Blue Books : Both cover the basics at a very comfortable, enjoyable pace for the beginner.

Those are just a few, but they're a great start!

PS: All of these books are available through the Chess and Poker Store (http://www.chessandpoker.com/shopping-center.html)
