Default Live Chess! Tata Steel, Armenian Championship!

Wijk aan Zee.

Super Grandmasters from all over the World.

TWO WEEKS (!) of exhilarating, top-level Chess mastery on display.

Capablanca Room (click to launch the Capablanca Viewing room...it's FREE!)

Seriously, it doesn't get much better than this for Chess players/fans! An unbelievable field of Chess talent has arrived on the coast of the North Sea to face off in an unbelievable round-robin event. Here are the first round match-ups for the main event (Group A Grandmasters):

Levon Aronian vs Loek van Wely
Magnus Carlsen vs Fabiano Caruana
Pentala Harikrishna vs Anish Giri
Vishy Anand vs Hikaru Nakamura
Ivan Sokolov vs Wang Hao
Peter Leko vs Erwin L'Ami
Sergey Karjakin vs Hou Yifan

The enigmatic GM Aronian with White in the first round, Super GM and World #1 rated player GM Carlsen taking on the rising star GM Caruna....World Champion GM Anand vs the USA's superstar GM Hikaru Nakamura...........

If you haven't guess it yet, I can't wait to watch these games!!

Fischer Room

Not to be outdone by the marquee names in the A-Group, we'll also be featuring live action from the B-Group Grandmasters in the Fischer Room. As the first round pairings show, there will be no shortage of action here either!

Richard Rapport vs Robin van Kampen
Romain Edouard vs Pedrag Nikolic
Sipke Ernst vs Jan Timman
Sergei Movsesian vs Arkadij Naiditsch
Sergey Tiviakov vs Alexander Ipatov
Maxim Turov vs Nils Grandelius
Daniil Dubov vs Jan Smeets

Karpov Room

Well, now that I'm out of breath I'll simply say to ALSO check out the Armenian Chess Championship which is running simultaneously and features (you guessed it) some amazing Chess action. Enjoy!

Tata Steel Chess (@tatasteelchess) just tweeted: World Champ Anand "forgot his preparation" in a theoretical line of the French and Nakamura cruised to a draw

Cmon Vishy, how is it going to be the Year of Anand if preparation is slipping your mind in Rd1 of the first Chess Major vs a top tier rival? However, it's a good start for Nakamura so I'm not exactly complaining

Carlsen vs Caruana is shaping up to have some tension with Carlsen gaining a slight edge according to Houdini and the live action commentator IM Aman Hambleton (great work, very active commentary). It's Carlsen so I'm going to be watching this one till the very end regardless but some friction on D1 is def cool

Karjakin is pushing hard against Hou and it looks like Leko may be tightening the noose around his opponent Erwin L'Ami....gogogogogogogogogogo!
