I'm really into Hold'em right now, but Chess is so beautiful it's always in the back of my mind. they are both equally enjoyable and frustrating at the same time

I would say texas holdem too, or poker.

Chess is good. But poker is the game that can make money...To make money from chess you need to be very very good. It is hard especially when so many variations have been analyzed already.

hypothetically you can make more money in Poker right now due to the enormous interest and prize pools generated by television exposure (right, richard?), but remember that you must still be sufficiently skilled to make money consistently. IMO Chess just hasn't gained the widespread popularity Poker is enjoying now because, for whatever reason, it's not as accessible to the general public. for example, when you hear that somebody has a Poker game going on Saturday night, anyone within earshot thinks, "Ooh, how do I get in on that?" But how many times have you heard about a late-night Round-Robin Chess tourney? I'll bring the beerz!

as far as Chess being analyzed too much, keep in mind that 100 years ago they were thinking the exact same thing. players as talented as Capablanca were trying new variations of Chess since they felt the game was "used up" and "effectively solved". how many of the "solved" variations are still played today? not many, if any at all. my point is that even though we've added computer analysis into the mix, the game is so complex that even when we solve it (not if, but when) we might not be able to fully understand the massive scope of concepts involved, even when they're lying right in front of us. there is much more to learn, in both games, that I'm sure of.

they're both frustrating and addicting enough to keep us interested nonetheless

Skill is something that is required to do well in almost every game but luck is a huge element while playing poker. Chess players have a lot of skill to deal with the plethora of strategies going on around in their head and on the board.

Chess is less fun to play against someone that's not as good as you, too easy whereas poker you enjoy that as it is implied you are playing for money.
